Technical Hurdles:
Font Encoding: Many older PDFs use legacy, non-Unicode Amharic fonts (e.g., GeezSoft). These display as gibberish on modern smartphones. Users must seek PDFs encoded in Unicode (Noto Sans Ethiopic, Abyssinica SIL).
Searchability: True searchable PDFs (with OCR) are rare. Most are scanned images of print pages. A user cannot easily search for the Amharic word for “mercy” (mähärä) across the entire text.
