Outline and History

Good statistical understanding can be easy to learn and should be accessible to everyone. It is invaluable for informed decision making across disciplines and education levels. The software development has been led by Africa talent and is intended for a broad-multilingual audience.

R-Instat provides a front-end to R, designed to broaden the users of the software, particularly in Africa. "R is an open-source programming language and software environment for statistical computing and graphics that is supported by the R Foundation for Statistical Computing. The R language is widely used among statisticians and data miners for developing statistical software and data analysis."

R’s reputation has grown incredibly in recent years. General information about R is here and it’s early history is given here. The original Instat was an easy-to-use statistics package, produced at the University of Reading, UK. It was designed to support good statistical practice and included a special menu for the analysis of historical climatic data. The ideas behind Instat have motivated the structure of the R-Instat menus and dialogues, though no line of the original code remains.

R-Instat started thanks to a crowd-sourcing campaign in 2015. This 3 minute video from the original campaign outlines the need for this software.

Expanded Chord Recognition: The improved engine now identifies more complex harmonies, including sevenths, fifths, and suspended chords. New Features in MK4 hornet songkey mk4 updated

MIDI Capability: Supports both MIDI input (for analyzing MIDI tracks) and MIDI output (to record detected chords). The Hornet Songkey MK4 Updated: A Game-Changer for

: A slight reduction in CPU load across both plugin and standalone versions, improving performance when running multiple instances or large projects. HoRNet Plugins Core MK4 Features Recap Electronic Music Producers : The Songkey MK4 updated

Furthermore, the MK4 update brings significant enhancements to chord recognition. One of the most difficult tasks for any pitch-to-MIDI software is distinguishing between similar chord voicings (e.g., a C Major versus a Cadd9) without perceptible delay. The updated algorithm in MK4 utilizes advanced logic to identify root notes and chord qualities with greater speed, reducing the latency that often breaks the immersion of a performance. This feature transforms the plugin from a mere utility into a compositional tool. Producers can now lay down a scratch guitar track and have SongKey MK4 instantly generate a guide chord progression for virtual instruments, accelerating the songwriting process significantly.

  1. Backup: Export/save current presets via the editor app or MIDI SysEx dump.
  2. Download: Get latest firmware and editor app from Hornet’s official support/downloads page.
  3. Connect: Plug Songkey MK4 to computer via USB-C; ensure stable power.
  4. Enter update mode: Follow device-specific method (hold specific buttons while powering on — consult release notes).
  5. Flash: Run firmware updater and follow on-screen prompts; do not disconnect until complete.
  6. Verify: Reboot device, restore presets, test keybed, encoders, arpeggiator, and DAW mappings.

The user interface has been completely rebuilt using a scalable vector-based GUI. This ensures clarity on high-resolution monitors and allows users to resize the window to fit their workspace. HoRNet SongKey MK4, tempo, chord and key finder
