MAME 2003 Reference Set (v0.78) is widely considered the "gold standard" for retro gaming on low-power hardware, particularly for Raspberry Pi

  • Missing BIOS: You must have neogeo.zip, cps1.zip, cps2.zip, playch10.zip, and decocass.zip in your ROMs folder. Without these, 50% of the set won't boot.
  • Split vs. Merged sets: MAME 2003 prefers a split set (clones are separate zip files). If you try to load a merged set, the emulator gets confused.
