World Building: Many CYOAs focus heavily on the "comfy" or "adventure" aspects, making the NSFW elements a reward for navigating a well-constructed world.
NSFW Toggle: On Reddit, you must use the native "NSFW" flair/tag to blur the preview. Failure to do so often results in an immediate ban.
Branching Narrative: The story will branch out based on your choices, allowing you to experience different storylines and endings.
- Branching Narrative Trees: The classic model. Choice A leads to Path 1; Choice B leads to Path 2. Simple in concept, but complex to write due to "branch explosion."
- Stat & Relationship Tracking: More advanced CYOAs (often called trainers or dating sim-lites) track numerical values. If your "Corruption" stat is >70, a new scene unlocks. If a character's "Affection" is too low, you get a bad ending.
- Image or Animation Integration: Most are accompanied by static art, 3D renders (often from software like Daz3D or Honey Select), or pixel art. Some newer ones include short looping animations.
- Save/Persistence: Because these are not linear, most allow you to save your progress or use "back" buttons to explore alternative branches.
