It represents a daring architectural experiment: a true four-voice analog engine fused with a massive 64-voice digital supernatural engine. 1. Getting Connected (No MIDI Loops!)
- Driver: Install the official Roland USB driver (even on macOS—don’t rely on class-compliant only).
- USB vs. DIN MIDI: USB gives you 4 virtual ports (for DAW integration). For the editor alone, USB is fine.
- Critical setting on JD-XA: Press [MENU] → [SYSTEM] → [USB] → USB MIDI THRU = OFF. Otherwise, you’ll get note echoes and frozen faders.
- In the editor software: Select “JD-XA” for both input and output. Match sample rate (44.1 kHz recommended).
Real-time Editing: Movements on the software sliders should now reflect instantly on the JD-XA hardware. roland jdxa editor work
Setup (Hardware + MIDI)
- Connect JD-XA’s MIDI OUT to your computer/MIDI interface MIDI IN; and JD-XA MIDI IN to interface MIDI OUT. Alternatively use USB-MIDI if supported.
- In editor app, set MIDI Input/Output to your interface.
- On JD-XA: System > MIDI > set Local Control/Channel and enable SysEx receive (if needed).
- Test by sending a single patch request or Bank Dump request from the editor; confirm editor receives data.
