Test Drive Unlimited 2 (TDU2) allows you to apply high-definition textures, custom car liveries, and improved environment skins without permanently altering your game files. Step 1: Download TexMod
Steam Version: For the Steam version, some users recommend renaming the original TestDrive2.exe to something like TestDrive2Old.exe and renaming Texmod.exe to TestDrive2.exe so Steam launches TexMod directly.
Method B – Extraction Mode (create your own mod)
Use this to grab textures from the game.
Part 2: What is TexMod? A Technical Snapshot
TexMod is a facade (or "wrapper") modding tool. It works by logging the textures loaded by the game’s executable (TDU2.exe).
Download TexMod: Locate a verified version of TexMod (v0.9b is standard) from community hubs like PCGamingWiki.
Open TexMod and click the large folder icon under "Target Application".
Launch via TexMod: Open the TexMod executable and select TDU2.exe as your "Target Application."
