Verdict: Essential, but Requires Patience
Updating the firmware on the Two Trees Sapphire Pro is highly recommended, but it is not a "one-click" process. The stock firmware is functional but often lacks safety features (like Thermal Runaway Protection) and modern conveniences. Moving to a custom version of Marlin 2.0 transforms the printer into a much safer, quieter, and more capable machine.
- Navigate to Settings > About Machine on the touchscreen.
- Verify the firmware version number matches the one you just installed.
- Perform a bed leveling procedure and run a test print (e.g., the RERF test file) to ensure all systems are working correctly.
- Power off the Sapphire Pro.
- Insert the SD card into the printer’s mainboard SD slot (usually on the front or side of the control box, not the touchscreen slot).
- Power on the printer.
- The printer will automatically detect the
.bin file and flash the firmware. The screen will show an update progress bar. Do not power off during this process.
- Once complete, the printer will reboot or display “Update Success.” Power off, and remove the SD card.
- If this appears immediately after an update, it usually means the new firmware has the safety feature enabled, but your heating cartridge or thermistor is loose. Check your hotend hardware before blaming the software.
