- Operating System: Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) or Windows 11 (64-bit) – Windows 7 is not officially supported for new installs.
- Hardware: Intel i5 or better, 8 GB RAM minimum, 20 GB free disk space.
- Dependencies: Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 or later, Visual C++ Redistributables (2015–2022).
- License: Valid USB dongle (hardware key) or software license file (rare for v4.7).
- Admin Rights: Required for driver installation (dongle driver).
4) Activate license (common methods)
- USB dongle: Plug the dongle into a USB port before launching WinOLS; install any vendor-supplied driver; WinOLS should detect the dongle automatically.
- License file/key: Use WinOLS’ license manager (Help or License menu) to import the license file or enter the activation key. Follow on-screen prompts; you may need internet access.
- Online activation: If the installer offers an online activation flow, allow it to contact the vendor servers. If your network restricts outbound connections, use an offline activation option provided by the vendor.
6) Common problems & fixes
- Installer blocked by antivirus: temporarily disable AV or add installer to exclusions; re-enable after install.
- USB dongle not detected: try different USB ports, install vendor drivers, check Device Manager for unknown devices, try a powered USB hub.
- Activation fails (offline machine): request offline activation code from vendor or move license file via USB from a machine with internet.
- Missing Visual C++ or .NET runtime errors: install required Microsoft runtimes; the installer may include them or provide links.
- Crashes opening certain files: ensure you have the latest minor updates/patches; try opening files on another machine to check file integrity.
